Pathway

Get your books ready for a first financial audit.

The first audit usually arrives as a request with a list. An independent firm does the audit. Start with your GAAPx Score to see where your records stand, then work on what auditors tend to ask about. You can start without choosing a milestone.

What you get: Your GAAPx Score, your stage, your strengths, your gaps and what is still unknown.

Who it is for

Your records can be in better order before the list arrives.

Controllers, CFOs and founders who expect a first independent audit, for a lender, an investor, a buyer or a listing.

What a first audit tends to ask of your books

These are areas outside auditors often cover. Auditors set their own requests.

  • Support for the main balances: cash, receivables, inventory, equipment and similar items, each tied to a record someone else can check.
  • Debt, accrued expenses, deferred revenue and equity that are presented consistently and explained.
  • A ledger and a month-end close that follow written steps, so numbers can be traced from entry to statement.
  • Accounting policies that are written down and applied the same way each period.
  • Documents ready when outside auditors ask for them, such as agreements, bank confirmations and reconciliations.

Three areas to work through

Balances and supporting records

Organize support for assets, liabilities, and equity.

Accounting and financial statements

Identify documentation gaps and prepare the schedules and disclosures relevant to your reporting framework.

Processes and review

Clarify how records are prepared, checked, approved, and retained.

Who does the audit

The audit is done by an independent audit firm your company chooses. GAAPx does not perform it, and neither does this site.

How it works

  1. Answer the questions.

Rate how your work runs across eight areas of finance and tell us about your team. Rough answers are fine, and "not sure" is allowed.

  2. Read your GAAPx Score.

See your score, your stage, your strengths, your gaps and what is still unknown.

  3. Work through three areas.

Pick where to start: balances and supporting records, accounting and financial statements, or processes and review.

What is available and what is being built

The GAAPx Score is available now. Improvement plans, shared boards and AI assistance are being built and may change.

AI prepares suggestions. You decide what to keep. AI approves nothing.

An independent auditor performs the audit. Templates, AI assistance, and readiness work do not provide audit assurance or an audit opinion. Requirements depend on your company and engagement.

Optional help from GAAPx and partners

The GAAPx Score and your results do not depend on buying help. If you want a second pair of eyes on a gap, or want the work done for you, GAAPx advisory and implementation support is available, and partners can help with specific gaps. You can use your own advisers at any point. We share your details with a partner only with your permission. Contact us if you want to talk it through.

Questions people ask

Do you perform the audit?

No. An independent audit firm does that. We help your company get ready for it.

Will this get us a clean audit opinion?

No one can promise that, and we do not. The opinion belongs to the auditors. You get a clearer view of your records and a short list of what to tidy first.

What if I do not know an answer?

Skip anything you do not know. It stays marked unknown, with a note on where more information is needed. It is never treated as a pass.
